Elvis DAM

Elvis DAM features a modern and intuitive user-interface to manage and find any number of digital assets. You can specify which users have access to what data and customize the user-interface to match your requirements. Importing assets and sharing collections with external staff is just as easy as editing any of the 400 metadata fields.

Server-side, Elvis DAM is powered by Lucene, the search engine that’s also used by Wikipedia and others. In combination with its super-fast processing engine, Elvis DAM can quickly scale up when your digital asset collection grows. Special attention has been paid to minimize IT efforts for installation, deployment and system administration. Various API’s deliver the desired extensibility.

Search – find – retrieve, fast

Elvis DAM uses familiar search concepts, such as browsing a folder structure or entering a google-like search phrase. You can narrow down search results with facets and filters and sort the results to quickly find what you need. Using the lightweight previews of images, videos, audio, PDF’s, office documents and more you can easily find the most appropriate item. And, through the tabbed interface, you can work on several tasks simultaneously.

Organize your assets

Elvis DAM offers various ways to organize your media. Folders provide a familiar environment. You can keep your existing folder structure when importing assets from a fileserver, or create your own folder structure. Collections are virtual containers that you can use to organize your assets, to share and to prepare your production. Relations provide yet another view on your assets. They can be applied manually as well as automatically inherited through import, archive or check-in processes.

Collaborate

To share or collaborate on digital assets you can simply email a link to a collection. The recipient can view the collection in a browser or in the desktop client, with the exact permissions you have set.

Easy import

You can manually import files by a simple drag-and-drop. Elvis also provides support for hot folders, wire feeds, RSS feeds and archiving from integrated production systems.

Elvis Drive –
Adobe Creative Suite integration

The creative team is fully integrated into your workflow through Elvis Drive. They can drag-and-drop the images straight from the Elvis DAM desktop client into Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator. The moment they make a modification, the file will be automatically checked out. Menus like Save and Check In are also performing these actions directly in Elvis DAM

Rights and permissions

For fine-grained control over what users can do with assets in Elvis DAM, you can set role-based permissions on folders and on any metadata field. You decide who can view and who can edit specific metadata fields, and hide sensitive metadata from groups of users. Date-based permissions enable setting an embargo date on the use of assets.

The power of metadata

Metadata is crucial to managing your assets. Elvis DAM supports over 400 metadata fields and allows you to define custom fields and groups as well. Quickly view rights, status, source or any other value for the assets you are browsing. Editing metadata is easy – also for multiple items – and Elvis DAM has a friendly way to encourage users to enter required metadata. The OpenCalais integration automatically enriches your metadata semantically.

Customized experience

The Elvis DAM user-interface is incredibly flexible. You can show only the relevant metadata, vary the size of thumbnails and panels and switch between screen layouts and view options depending on the task you are performing. Drag your most-used locations to the favorites panel to create quicklinks to folders, collections, and saved searches. Save your preferences and apply them to an entire user group for an optimized way of working.

Reporting

Elvis DAM includes a customizable reporting engine that allows you to monitor everything about your assets and their usage. Reports and statistics can be fully customized to meet your organization’s management information needs. Out of the box, we already include a set of useful reports – Repository growth, Usage statistics and Search statistics. Of course, you can also create your own reports.

Elvis Server

Elvis Server is the core of Elvis DAM. It takes care of storage, versioning and security of your assets and performs most of the functionality of Elvis DAM, such as searching, preview generation, and more. Elvis Server can be accessed by the Elvis AIR desktop client, a Web browser, Elvis Drive, or any external application that uses the Elvis API. The HTTP(s) communication between Elvis clients and the server enables easy use from remote locations.

Search engine

Search performance is incredible, returning results in milliseconds even when searching through millions of assets. Elvis DAM indexes all text-based material like XML, HTML, PDF, Word, plus all metadata of the assets, so you can use a wide variety of facets and filter options. Due to the integration with OpenCalais, metadata of the text-based files will be enriched semantically.

Media-processing server

Videos, images, Office docs, XML, HTML, PDF – the list of supported file types doesn’t stop here! The powerful media-processing engine of Elvis DAM renders high-quality previews and thumbnails and extracts all embedded text and metadata. To handle peak ingestion and meet demands in scalability, the processing engine can either run on the main server or be distributed over dedicated processing servers. On apple hardware, one processing engine can import up to 50.000 files per hour.

SOAP and REST API

Elvis DAM offers many ways to customize and integrate. One of the most versatile is the Elvis API, which comes in two flavors – a SOAP web service and a REST API. The REST API also includes a jQuery-based JavaScript library that gives web developers a jump-start when creating web interfaces that connect to Elvis. Both API’s come with numerous code samples and web interfaces that demonstrate their power and flexibility.

The core Elvis DAM functionality is extendable through plugins. Schedule plugins extend the server functionality, whereas Action plugins are used to tailor Elvis DAM desktop client functionality. Custom menus and buttons can open dialogues and tabs containing specific features or integrations. A number of open source plugins are bundled with Elvis DAM.

Plugins

The core Elvis DAM functionality is extendable through open source bundled plugins. So called Action plugins are used to tailor Elvis DAM desktop client functionality, whereas Schedule plugins extend the server functionality and require no user interaction. There is also a WoodWing Enterprise import plugin that allows you to archive WoodWing publications, issues and dossiers, including all related images, articles and produced PDFs, in Elvis.

Geo tagging with Google Maps

The Google Maps plugin visually shows the locations at which photos where shot. To tag assets without embedded geo-location info, use the search to find the location and then just drag-and-drop them onto the map.

Photo usage report

A common question for publishers: What’s the cost of the photos in the last issue? In most cases, license costs for used photos have to be calculated by hand. To solve this problem, we’ve created a plugin to give you an overview of all content used in a publication.

Contact sheet

The contact sheet takes a selection of images from the desktop client and opens them in a printable view in your browser. Several views are available, from one image with a lot of metadata to twelve images on a sheet with only the filename. The different views and metadata display can be customized for this sample.

External search

If your own archive doesn’t contain the image you need, you may want to scour external sources to find that perfect picture. Instead of leaving your Elvis client for a web browser to start your search all over again, simply search in your favorite image repository in a new tab, next to your Elvis results.

Server Plugins

Create automated server tasks that require no user interaction, for example for:

  • Asset ingestion workflows
  • Automated archiving from production systems
  • Cleanup of no longer used assets
  • Data migration

More Plugins

Elvis DAM comes with many more action and schedule plugins. They are open-source, so you can modify and customize them as much as you need. For more info see the complete list of bundled plugins.

Elvis DAM is not a closed environment, on the contrary. Integrations with industry-leading solutions are available, opening up a wide array of possibilities:

WoodWing Enterprise

Elvis DAM comes with a best-in-class integration with WoodWing’s multi-channel publishing system – Enterprise. The Elvis DAM user interface is accessible from within a tab in Content Station and items can be dragged and dropped into Dossiers directly, creating references to the original assets. Automatic archiving of content from Enterprise to Elvis DAM is another important feature.

WordPress

The Elvis Media Manager plugin for WordPress allows you to easily insert images, videos, and text directly from Elvis DAM into your WordPress posts and pages. A button is added to the WordPress WYSIWYG text editor. Features include automatic resizing of images and HTML5 video tagging.

Enfocus Switch

To integrate Elvis DAM into Enfocus Switch we have created Elvis Send and Elvis Receive configurators. These configurators are available on the Enfocus Crossroads website. In combination with configurators from other vendors, it’s possible to extend your workflow with Elvis DAM, or extend Elvis DAM with your workflow.

Open Calais

The OpenCalais Web Service automatically creates rich semantic metadata for content – in well under a second. Using natural language processing (NLP), machine learning and other methods, Calais analyzes documents and finds the entities within it. The result is that your metadata will be enriched automatically.
