For today’s Aysling Team Spotlight article, we’re diving deep into the twisted yet unique world of Product Manager, Tom Bellen. Tom is known around the office as the Golf Guru, and the Movie Fact Enthusiast. You might not know this, but Tom and Zach don’t spend a lot of time “preparing” for Tom’s Tips Podcast, and often times that Movie Trivia and Cat Fact you might hear, is right off the cuff, not even researched. So you might be thinking, why would someone who knows as much information about indie movies as IMDB, and can easily challenge Tiger Woods (challenge not win), be working at Aysling, well that’s probably because his international pre-teen gambling days didn’t pan out.
So with that being said, let’s take a moment to learn more about the Tom’s Tips Podcast star, Tom Bellen.
What’s your name?
What is your job title at Aysling?
So, what does that mean you actually do?
I gather information from a lot of different sources: support, sales, customers, competitors, etc. I use the information to convince people what we should do with the product. But I have no real authority or power to make a decision. And no matter what I do, I will make someone mad.
How long have you worked at Aysling?
5 1/2 years
What is your favorite thing about working at Aysling?
I enjoy when we come up with a change to the system that does a good job of solving a problem. Hopefully, making someone’s life better.
What is/was your favorite magazine publication?
If you had to publish your own magazine, what would it be about?
I would create a golf magazine with tips.
What is the one piece of software you cannot live without?
What is your favorite season?
If you could live in any movie/television show, which one would it be? And why?
I live in Silicon Valley. But I would love to live in Friends. How is it that you can hang out drinking coffee all day with friends, but still live in crazy New York apartments? How can a chef and trans-sponder afford that place! FYI I am a total Chandler Bing, and I married a Monica.
Board, Card, or Video Games?
Favorite type of sandwich?
Interesting fact about yourself?
I once won a good chunk of money in a Jamaica casino…when I was 11.. I went back for more and was kicked out.
And finally, what is your favorite quote/lyric (movie, television show, song, or inspirational)?
“C’mon, Michael. Let me help. I’m not very tall…but I’m slow.”
– Stan Podalak
And that’s a wrap! Can’t get enough Tom? We can understand that, check out Tom’s Tips Podcast every month for a new episode, you’ll likely learn more than you can imagine about the Ann Arbor native. Until then, keep an eye up to the skies, as our next Aysling Team Spotlight focuses on our intergalactic budget analyst. Some might say he rules with an iron fist, but we think it’s more bejeweled, though he doesn’t care for that comment.
